− | New Technology: The HiSeq2000 from Illumina has the highest data yield of any commercially available sequencer. The latest model in the industry leading Illumina line offers up to 100 million reads per lane. Read lengths over 100 bases are possible in single read or paired-end mode. Data yield is ~2.5x higher than the previous GAII models for only 50% more cost. We will continue to operate our GAII sequencers at a reduced cost for users who don’t need the higher data yields and prefer a less expensive run cost.

− | New Technology: Reduce costs even further with sample multiplexing. Illumina’s new TruSeq library prep kits allow multiplexing of up to 12 samples in a single lane. Compatible with both the HiSeq and GAII sequencers these new kits will replace the old prep kits which are being phased out.

− | New Service: The GTC now offers library prep services for Illumina sequencing. The SPRIworks system from Beckman automates the library prep protocol including the laborious size selection. Not only is this a significant time and labor savings but it can also improve library complexity and increase the percentage of aligned reads. The input is dsDNA (RNA samples need to be reverse transcribed first) and the service includes all adaptors and reagents for a cost of $185. The system is compatible with the TruSeq reagents allowing for preparation of barcoded samples for multiplexing.

The nCounter is a “mid-multiplex” technology ideal for measuring dozens to hundreds of targets in dozens up to thousands of samples. Filling the throughput and cost niche between RT-PCR and microarrays the system offers a simple, affordable and customizable option for gene expression analysis and other applications.
